Let’s Vote Iowa 2026
You can protect your vote by knowing how to register, how to cast your ballot, and how to make sure your vote is counted. You can also help protect other voters by sharing information and, if you are able, volunteering with voter protection efforts in your county or across Iowa.
2026 Call to Action
In 2026, organizations and volunteers across the state are working to make sure every eligible Iowa voter can register, cast a ballot, and have that ballot counted.
Protecting voters and our elections will take all of us. Local and statewide organizations are preparing to help voters understand their rights, get the information they need, and overcome barriers to voting.
You can be part of this effort.
Serve as a poll watcher, share voting information, help voters in your community, or volunteer with an organization working on voter protection. Whatever you can do, there is a place for you in this effort.
What’s New in Voting
There’s a lot happening right now. Here’s what’s on our radar.
Check your voter registration
The Secretary of State’s office is doing a review of the voter rolls using various databases which might have errors. It is important to check your voter registration status.
- If your status says active: you don’t need to take any action
- If your status says inactive: you don’t need to re-register as long as you vote in 2026.
- If your status says pending, incomplete, or unconfirmed: you should contact your county auditor’s office and find out what you need to do to change your status to active.

Voting by Mail: Plan Ahead
In recent years, changes at the U.S. Postal Service have caused mail delays. Even if you have voted by mail before without a problem, plan to allow extra time for your ballot this year.
- If you vote by mail, don’t wait—mail or turn in your Absentee Ballot Request form and your ballot as early as possible
- Even better, if you can, vote early in person
